HO-1 and cerebral malaria In a post-mortem evaluation of human cerebral (falciparum) malaria, strong HO-1 immunostaining was consistently noted in microglia/macrophages within and surrounding the pathognomonic Durck’s granulomas (Schluesener et al., 2001). As witnessed in cerebral trauma specimen

It is difficult, however, to assure that observed alterations of pro-oxidant/antioxidant levels within the studied organisms are related directly to heavy metal pollution, rather than to other accompanying environmental stressors. Environmental factors like oxygen partial pressure, temperature, sali

Urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP) is a widely used biological marker of exposure to PAHs and indicator for internal dose of activated PAHs (Jongeneelen, 1987, Adonis et al., 2003). PAH metabolites may be excreted either as free or as conjugated compounds. When 1-OHP is measured after treating the urin

The expression of COX-2 has been correlated with the density of amyloid plaque [65]. A study reported that IMX was effective in suppressing the expression of iNOS and IL-6, but not COX-2, in LPS-stimulated BV2 microglial cells [52]. In this study, IMX did not alter upregulation of COX-2 induced by H

Methods Results Discussion The current study is the first to specifically investigate the role of hepatic GPR109A and GPR109B on HDL metabolism and response to niacin therapy. While niacin raises HDL-C levels in humans, it has been reported by others [20], [36] and confirmed by us here that n

Morin is a flavonoid that has shown to have effective anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor function [118]. Morin was able to block the activation of NF-κB pathway by ROS and inflammatory cytokines, preventing a signaling cascade resulting in cell death [121]. Morin exerted its control over the signaling

  2022-07-04

Introduction Methylglyoxal (MG) is a highly reactive dicarbonyl metabolite formed in cells mainly by the spontaneous degradation of triose phosphates, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, and dihydroxyacetone phosphate (Rabbani and Thornalley, 2012). It exists in a wide range of organisms, including proto

Sepsis was defined as a systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) associated with severe infection in 1992 [9]. However, in the Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock [10], it was redefined as life-threatening organ dysfunction provoked by a dysregulated host resp

Previous studies have demonstrated that cannabinoid potentiation of GlyR α3 subunits contributes to cannabinoid-induced analgesia. For instance, Dehydroxylcannabidiol (DH-CBD), a chemically modified cannabinoid, can alleviate acute pain and chronic inflammatory pain by targeting spinal α3 GlyRs (Xio

Genetic rescue of GluR-A-dependent spatial working memory Spatial working memory performance in GluR-A−/− mice can be restored by the forebrain-specific Dorsomorphin of GluR-A subunits labeled with green-fluorescent protein (GFP) on an otherwise GluR-A knockout background (Schmitt et al., 2005).
